The series is a heavy adaptation of the original novel My Senior Brother is Too Steady (《我师兄实在太稳健了》). While it retains the core “steady” (稳健) philosophy and comedic tone, the production team has significantly simplified the plot and world-building for a television format.

  • Plot Simplification: The production team optimized the novel's complex Primordial Era (洪荒) setting and删减晦涩支线 (cut obscure subplots) to make the story more accessible and streamlined for a TV audience.
  • Tonal Shift: The novel's extensive internal monologues and meticulous calculations were adapted to focus more on visual comedy and action, as the source material’s charm relied heavily on text-based psychological descriptions. Modern internet jokes like “live-streamed tribulations” and “fairy realm friend circles” were added to enhance the comedic effect.
  • Character Arc & Focus: There is significant debate among fans about the adaptation of key characters, with early promotional materials showing changes in casting classifications, leading to concerns about potential reductions in screen time for certain roles.

Plot Overview

Li Changshou, a terminally ill patient in his past life, is reborn into the ancient Primordial Era, before the great Investiture of the Gods war. He becomes a low-level Qi refiner with no great destiny or luck. His only goal is to survive and live forever. To survive the brutal world, he strictly avoids karmic entanglements, plans every move meticulously, and never takes unnecessary risks. He hides his true abilities, masters escape techniques and poisons, and always leaves no trace behind. His plan for a peaceful life is disrupted when his master takes in a new junior sister, setting off a chain of unforeseen events.
