Breakthrough Role Hou's breakthrough came with the 2023 costume short drama The Reborn Princess Consort (Jiang Men Du Hou), in which he played the pivotal role of Xie Jingxing, a complex and calculating young nobleman who joins forces with the reborn heroine to overturn the court. The role allowed him to showcase his ability to handle emotionally layered characters, and the series became one of his most representative works. When he was cast as Xie Jingxing in The Reborn Princess Consort, some fans initially expressed concern about whether he could fully capture the character's complexity, given that he had previously only gained recognition through a supporting role in Jin Yue Ru Ge. Nevertheless, he continues to land roles in high-profile short-drama projects, including the 2026 drama Please Remember My Name (Qing Ji Zhu Wo De Ming Zi) alongside Rao Zihao. His trajectory reflects the broader ecosystem of China's short-drama industry, where talented newcomers can build a loyal following through consistent work, even without the massive visibility of mainstream television.
